Why 12% of Fortune 500 companies survived from 1955?

Comparing the list of Fortune 500 companies from 1955 vs. 2017, you find that only 60 survived in a period of six decades which represents about 12% of the total. Whether due to bankruptcy, merged or acquired or low revenues to make it on the list in 2017, the change is eye-dropping. So, what is your company doing not to be part of the 88% failure group?
