What is the #1 killer of loyalty?

Loyalty is one of those things that takes time to build – whether it is at work or relationships you have with others – it requires energy and commitment. But, it can disappear almost instantaneously when one senses that the other person, manager or company for example really does not care about you.  So, if loyalty is broken, what do you do to salvage it and how do you know it’s salvageable?
