How can you detect a fake guru?

Over the years, we hear about someone selling ”snake oil” which is supposed to be the cure for anything that troubles you. Similarly, fake management gurus sell you an idea or product that is the fix for all your problems, if and when, you follow for example the five or ten steps they prescribe. So, how do you avoid a fake guru?
